From The Pets in My Family – Their Stories and experiences

One of the most amazing things about this breed is their ability to adapt to almost any situation. They serve in a wide variety of professional fields as well as making outstanding companions.

via Pit Bull Lovers

When you hear about Pit Bulls, what are the first thoughts on your mind? Sadly most of the thoughts in relation to Pit Bulls, are of a negative sort. Usually a direct result of all the Bad Press, that gives Pit Bull’s a bad rap. It’s really to bad because in actuality Pit’s are great dogs, as they one that has been in my family for years, has never shown to be the snarling beast, that doesn’t let go as the media likes to present them. What is the worst of it, is that is what usually sells newspapers, only bad news. My hope with this article is to shed some light on the subject, and help others realize Pit Bull’s are Great Dogs.

To start the history of Yoda, was of a regular born Pit Bull in the rural areas of Salinas, where he was well taken care of, just as his mother was also, when they had puppies Yoda was the runt of the litter. My little brother Paul Marr (Link to His Facebook) who was part of FFA and was helping to raise a pig,(Link to Article)  had come across Yoda, at a farm nearby where he was keeping his pig. He immediately fell in love with the dog, as little Yoda was friendly and inviting. There was no pre conceived notions about this breed when he decided to take this little puppy home, and to raise him to be the best dog ever. Certainly it was not a walk in the park, but throughout all the years I have known Yoda, he has not snapped at anybody, or attempted to attack them he has only shown unconditional love and appreciation, for this family that he adopted.

Certainly he has been to obedience school, to make him a better dog, not as a punishment, but instead just as with any breed, obedience training always helps. Funny thing he had to go through it twice not for him but for my father who is currently his handler and his wife. Yoda picked up on it the first time the second time was so my father could get it, interesting how a pit bull is a faster learner then a human.  Though it also proves the point that Pit Bull’s can be trained, and they are quick studies. Why I also say how your Bull Terrier acts is a direct result of how you train them too. For the better or the worst certainly Pit Bull Terriers are quick studies.

As with everything they are a result of how you train them, for the better or the worst. The bad raps they get from the press, is simply because they sell, mauling, rabid dogs, these sort of things sell and why not make a breed out to be the enemy, simply because they can learn more quickly than most humans?  Really the Bull Terrier breed does not warrant such bad press, yet the only way for stories to change, and points to be made clear is that there is awareness. Understanding that Pit Bulls, can be trained, and should be trained for the companionship that will last a lifetime, not as fighting dogs only there for a quick buck from a bet on a fight. Instead the Pit Bull Handlers, should take the time to lead by example, by training your Bull Terrier well, you will be rewarded with a flexible dog, strong and willing, to be the best pet it can be, as the quote I started with on this post, they are flexible and uniquely sharp, so be the best trainer, to be rewarded with the best pet, who will love you for many years of your life and will be there at your side through the good and bad times as a companion for life.

What is your story? How have you made your Bull Terrier the best pet ever, and the lifelong companion? Why not share in the comments down below. Truly Bull Terriers are wonderful dogs, our Yoda still is with us to this day, he has certainly grown, but he is also the most caring companion you could ever know.

Authors like cats because they are such quiet, lovable, wise creatures, and cats like authors for the same reasons.  ~Robertson Davies

The Caretaker, of the pets who speak on knatdecat

Our Caretaker ~ Knatchwa

As I was reading some of these quotes I started thinking about ideas, about how such simple things as one person said at one point in time could relate so very differently in today’s world, where it seems it is more about sensory overload then, remembering the simplicity. That you can exist fine without all the unnecessary, noise or gadgets or what ever the current trend is.

Instead as an author does, they take time away from all the unnecessary things, as an author will often do their best work when in silence, when without distraction, can actually put the focus on what needs to be done then, to create their work. To know silence, is a result of appreciation of the felines of the species, and how these cats see no point in being distracted, as they are also in their own world in their delightfully independent way. They do not bark, they do not do all they can to distract you instead they have an appreciation that at every point there is a chance to relax, there is an opportunity for cuddling but it is not forced on the author.

A cat has an intuitive sense, as most felines do in relation to appreciating each others space, there are times they like to share the space but it is more likely they are more appreciative of their own space just as the author is. Meaning in more simple terms felines are in tune with their caretaker, with the one who feeds them, takes care of them and the same one who at night they watch over. A cat, is a very wise animal, with their awareness and the willingness to listen more than meow the night away. In that sense a cat can be an authors greatest asset, as a sounding board of sorts, or simply as the one sentient being who is there for you, whatever may be on your mind.

Often the best writing comes from those silent times, in the wee hours of the evening, as I am sure many can relate, as the only of  little or no distraction, when the world is asleep and the only noise heard is the breathing or the purring if the cat decided to warm your lap w/o distraction. It is in those hours, whereby I often have the most profound inspirations, and deeper thoughts when there is nothing else to detract from it like there is when the world outside is awake and moving. When people are lost in their sensory overloaded world, wanting to blast stereos or make noise in efforts not to really think but instead to just be. The same individuals who may only see the Black and White without any idea of the full spectrum of color that awaits them outside there sensory overloaded world if only they would take a moment to silence all the technology and remember the power of the silence.

The silence that is appreciated from both the author and his cat, as each understand that there can be Meditation, reflection, and better understanding of the self that only appears when there is only white noise surrounding the consciousness of the human mind. When there is less external stimuli, an author begins to look inward as in that silence it is only him and what he chooses to allow to enter into thought. In a cat purring warming the lap, the author can use that sound, that constant sound to enter into a state of self-hypnosis, where more depth of thinking can take place. In that sense both are benefiting as the cat is appreciative that there is love and there is touch, and the author is appreciative because the cat is helping with self-hypnosis, as a pathway into deeper consciousness. In this space where creativity flows freely, a united effort of two sentient being in union of one objective.

That objective is to access deeper consciousness, and to have a chance to think differently, while the cat only asks that you are there with her. The Author and a Cat seem to be a team, one which should rarely be separated, since there is that intuitiveness from a cat, there is a interdependency of sorts. Where each plays their role in a common direction, in creating something profound, deep and unique. Then to take those thoughts, that ability, to write that sentence, that paragraph or that page, to begin and to keep going working together through the good and the hard times united in a common objective.

RIP Fluffy - One Kitty Lost

Cute Yes - A Child, Correct.

When you are feeling the pinch in your wallet, but want to have a fluff of love and cuteness with a kitten, a free kitten seems just the thing the doctor ordered. It seems to good to be true, because it is. As a free kitten is not really free at all just as there is no free lunch. The reason I say this is simply because anyone who is giving away a free kitten is in that situation for one of two reasons. Either she had not taken care of the Queen, the mother of the kitten, by not having her fixed to insure there would be no unplanned kittens or the economy has hit her hard and she has to get rid of them and the new place doesn’t allow pets.

Now you may say that does not really say much about the reason why this seemingly ideal kitten without cost could be so desirable. Quite simply because a kitten may be cute, but they are also a handful, to take them on without cost could mean you would have to have them fixed so as to make sure there is no encore performance and you find yourself in a similar situation. Also as they are very much like a baby, they only will learn from their mother and if they are separated to soon they may or may not have a chance to survive. As in taking them under your wing you also become the primary caregiver, and this little fluff of fur and love looks to you to learn how to be. Very much like a baby learns by trial and error though the difference is that with a kitten – you need to get them used to using the Litter Box, where it is and when they are fed. And as the saying goes Curiosity can be a killer for cats, you double that for a kitten, as they want to explore this new place, their new home and they may get into more than you imagined. Which again brings about a new cost, to replace all the things that the kitten may destroy until he/she understands what can or cannot be done.
Also with a kitten, there is also consideration of as much as you may know about her background, as some breeds though most kittens now are more of a mixed breed each has its issues. To take care of your kitten as best you can it is also necessary to make sure all the immunizations are current or your kitten may have a very short life. As there are also many considerations and viruses that can be lethal to a kitten. Also a kitten has different dietary needs, to a point where they eat more than a full-grown cat would, because just as a young boy needs to eat so should a young kitten to get what they need to grow up healthy and strong. To do that you as the primary caretaker are really the one person who can decide this kitten will live or die. To do that you need to begin to set money aside to take care of immunizations, food and litter … Referenced within Kittens For Dummies on the side bar.

Dogs and their loyalty, come from so many years of taking care of varied people in various situations, and through many years of training for the service industry. Besides the fact that the primary objective with a dog is to please the caretaker. So the loyalty comes from the constant want to please. For so many years dating back to the dark ages, dogs have always played a pivotal part in the hunt, the organization, the guardianship of the owner. Many examples throughout history why dogs have always been a constant loyal companion. The loyalty is born from many generations past and through each doing all they can to insure their masters are safe and happy.

One Great Dog - To Often Misinterpreted, Pit Bulls Are Great Animals.

Yoda On the Scen

Dogs, no matter the breed are often more likely to be loyal to their masters, the article quoted above speaks more to that. Though the dog in this picture is one particular breed that has long been misinterpreted by misinformed individuals, speaking to how Pit Bulls are bad dogs.

This dog – in the love he shared with us without condition being a pit bull is one of the best dogs that we have had an opportunity to have in our family. He would run along with you whether you are bicycling or walking, he would pull but he was always good about where he would pull you.

Since this photo – he has been through obedience school and now is one of the most cooperative dogs you could ever see, he is big that much is for sure, but he serves as an example how a  breed that has misinterpreted and assumptions made because of misinformation. Dogs are more loyal then cats because cat’s know independance it is how they have been since the first ones were domesticated while a dog, no matter the breed, his/her objective is to be the best he can and to please his Master. So next time you see a pit bull don’t run off or spit expletives, just understand a dog is a direct result of their training for the better or the worst.

Our House Dog - Should See How she Does on a ride

Being active with your dog can add some spice to the otherwise mundane task of regular exercise. If you have an energetic dog chances are they will love the exercise, and if you find your K9 bouncing off the walls and getting into trouble burning off that extra energy will help give you a little more quiet time at night. Running and biking are two good ways to help exercise both owner and pet. Here are some things to consider before you get out there.

via AdoptaPet.Com

The article quoted above offers some great insight, depending on the breed and the trail even a dog can come along on a cross country bike tour, certainly it is the necessity of being aware though of your buddies limitations and of course you both need to stay hydrated so bring along extra water for your new biking buddy. In taking the steps to keep hydrated, to enjoy the trail and having a great opportunity to spend with your canine buddy, why not get the check up, make sure your doggy pal is ready for the trail and hit it. Slow at first just like you and I need to approach things but before you know it you will have a varietal marathon runner for a pet who is also so much happier to have you with him, and will rest soundly and be ready again the next day.

Good time to get started, get the checkup for both the dog and the bike :) and you will be ready to go, and enjoy the miles covered together and the well earned rest at the top of the vista or wherever you two decide to take a break, and enjoy it fully.

Should Kids Have Pets – Indeed They Should And The Following Is Why;

Annie the Dog

Annie the Dog

Yes I think pets could be beneficial for a child as they offer an opportunity for acquaintanceship, and learning how to take care of another sentient being. As well as an opportunity to have a best friend that is there just for them, no matter what may be going on, always willing to just take the time to listen as a child’s mind is a busy place. There are some things she just needs to figure out on her own, and with a pet, who he/she cares for and takes care of, often the pet is often the best listener she will ever have, as a pet has no ulterior motives except to be the best pet they can be while giving love when love is offered without pre judgement and there is no putting down of the child, as the pet will just sit there and listen to what she has to say, and really sometimes a child needs that, to often I think there is extenuating circumstances or old views, of how a child should be, that will eventually overcome them if they do not have someone to use as a sounding board such as a loving canine or feline friend to be able to talk to about the dreams or the objectives of this child as they grow to adulthood. In such a wonderful way that a child will have the opportunity to feel better about their thoughts because they were able to communicate it to their best furry friend.

Marcy The Cat

Marcy The Cat

Animals, are wonderful listeners, and can often be quite willing to be the best they can be with the child in the household, with some training, both of the pet and the child, as they each have challenges with the other, and both need to learn that each is a sentient being, and both often just want their space on occasion, particularly of the feline variety. As felines by their very nature are quite independent and self sufficient, as cats are very effective predators and can often do what they need to do to make sure they get their dinner. Even domesticated cats, of the pet variety still have those instincts from many generations past, which is why often a cat just needs her space on occasion but is otherwise quite willing to just spend time with her favorite human, child or adult alike. Even though there is the common misconception about cats that they are just like dogs, the main difference dogs are pack animals they want to be where everyone is, while cats are far more independent and rather a high perch or a favorite hiding place then where all the activity is.
Regardless of Canine or Feline, a pet benefits a child by giving them a best friend, someone who loves without condition and does not pre judge the child, instead willing takes whatever the child may say and listens intently.

Family of Pets

Family of Pets

Perhaps the cat does not understand all that is said, but the tonality, and the words, can amaze people as to how much a cat places in it’s own personal database, maybe not understanding but remembering how nice it was to just listen then go about their business. Even a dog could be the same, a small dog, with a calm personality will gladly reside there and listen, and give you kisses when you feel sad, or check on you when he/she is worried based on tonality. Either type you choose, all have that willingness to be your best friend, to return the favor to their caretaker when the caretaker takes care of them. Though it is dependent on how they are taken care of, because a dog only knows what they are taught while a cat is usually more willing to just be. Neither of these types though want to be yelled at or hurt and often if that happens the same is returned. So really a pet whether canine or feline, can be a wonderful addition to a child’s life, and there are many of these same animals throughout even your local area who just want a good home, so why not find a pet you can care for, in a shelter or through a humane society and give them a good home, so that they can return the favor to you and to your children. Pets are definitely beneficial to a child with proper training of both the pet and the child you will have a life long friend. Someone who will care for you and for your family as if they are their own, when treated properly will treat you properly, it is a give and take, you sow what you reap. Offer Love and it will be returned, offer hate or anger or spitefulness and the animal will respond similarly.
In conclusion a properly trained pet and child can be together for a very long time, they both have the benefit of love from another sentient being, and with cats living up to twenty years they will be with you for over two decades when taken care of, loved and attended to, not as a princess but an equal being in your home, to live such a long life there are steps to take and that of course is for another article entirely, for now just know that your child can benefit from a pet and a pet can benefit from being brought to a loving home instead of facing certain death in the streets or on an operating table, if they are not loved and brought into a home. It is sad but true, shelters and pounds have limited capacity, to make space for the animals some must die on the operating table with euthanasia executed to make space. Certainly there are no-kill shelters but just consider there are millions of people in the United States alone and many homes that a pet may find if only they are removed from the shelter or the pound so that they can live their best life and be your best friend, for you & your children and those who may be in the future. In two decades with a feline much can happen, if you only take care of them and do the best you can for them they will live to such a ripe old age and be your lifelong friend no matter what may happen in those two decades as long as you keep them by your side.

Mona On Meditation

Tortoise Shell ~ Kitty Meditation

The wonders of meditation, as a kitty who has found inner peace I speak to you today.
~ Mona De Brave

As the youngest of the three cats in my household, I am the one who often needs the most peace and quiet, to enjoy the silence as it is presented right then which is why I was happy to find this quote;

“It’s not all in your head. What we’ve found is that when you evoke the relaxation response, the very genes that are turned on or off by stress are turned the other way. The mind can actively turn on and turn off genes,” says Dr Herbert Benson of the institute.

by www.su.pr/1v0rZy via Twitter

Well cats have dem genes to you know, and we meditate on a regular basis, why I want to offer this article on how it could help a person in dealing with the daily grind and The Challenges of the times. Meditation is defined differently depending on the person or the belief system but the general consensus is usually that it is a time for relaxation to enter into your own happy, peaceful place, and to reside just in that moment without worrying about the next or the one after that. Meditation can improve your health, enhance your awareness and help you deal with the society today, with it’s sensory overload, productivity based existence, where stress becomes just part of the day. Though it does not have to be that way, in fact meditation can be done at just about any time and just about any place as it only takes 15 minutes or so depending no how much time you have to work with. That fifteen minutes, can be your time for bliss.

Certainly we cats live a bit more of a relaxed life, at least those who have been so fortunate to have found homes, to experience being loved by our people. Yet there are still many who are without living the life of a farrow cat, in the tough world in the streets even if cats have an innate ability to be great hunters, it is still tough out there. Though I do not doubt that many cats still take time out of life and living to just reside in the moment, don’t you think?

Meditation, is a great way for you both to enhance your relationship, in fact many a cat once they see you doing it want to try and follow suite, so why not set a good example? The process is simple, quite simple in fact that even a cat can understand it. To start try and find a place you can be comfortable in, and be open, no crossed arms or legs just relax to open up yourself to the energy that is created in a consistent meditation.

• First take some deep breaths, help your body relax by just stopping whatever you are doing to just bring in the air, you are so fortunate to have an opportunity to experience.
• Second, clear your mind, now this is never an easy step particularly when you are just starting, don’t fret, will go into more detail about the steps involved later in this post.
• Third, when you are relaxed just keep breathing steady, if a thought pops in your head put on a temporary back burner for this moment and deal with it when you are done.
• Fourth, Using a timer or just a watch after the 30 minutes return slowly breathing steady and helping the body awake from the meditative state.

The first step is really to help you relax, to breathe deeply is to bring your energy to the forefront by taking away the stresses. Breathing deeply helps you prepare your body for the meditation soon to be experienced. As well as prepared your body to enter into a more relaxed state and is often an important part of the process if not the most important.

The second step, is never easy, as promised I will offer now some suggestions to help you clear your mind;

‣ Think about a calming place, wherever you would feel most relaxed with your eyes closed visualize yourself there enjoying it fully without a worry in the world.
‣ If a thought tries and jump in there simply put it aside, by stating I will deal with you later … so it does not bother your time as you are in your special place.
‣ It will most certainly take practice to get the habits in place but with the two above you are off to a good start.

We then move onto Stage 3 ~ in being consistent with your breathing pattern slow and steady, still relaxing while insuring the good air keeps flowing. As I said in step 2 if something jumps in take a moment then make a choose to put it on the back burner until the session is complete. That way you can then give it the proper focus to look at it, and ponder why it came up at that moment. Often times it is these moments of clarity that occur, when you are only focusing on the sound of your breathing or are relaxing in your happy place.

The final step is pretty self explanatory to return to the reality count from 1 to 10 and by 10 you should be wide awake and ready to go, try and do this at least daily to center yourself and lessen the stress that is par for the course in today’s society of Sensory Overload (http://su.pr/2mVrb0) and Media Noise that has become so apparent today for the better or the worst. The choice lies with you, to make a decision to make sure you are in good health from something as simple as meditation you need to make the choice to get it done. In so doing you are setting the example for the generations yet to come of what makes sense and how to live a more balanced life.

In conclusion, it makes sense to meditate each day to keep the balance, we cats have done it for years, simply because though our lives may be simpler we still need those times to just be with self, and understand all the activity and talking our parents offer to us. We have brains like databases, everything is remembered so with such alot of information in our head it is always good to take the time to meditate, To choose a good place, for me it is in the backyard by the fountain with two frogs and beside buddha that I take the time to be in that moment, and hey buddha offers inspiration, but you know you get hungry, so if only they would put some fish in the fountain, I’d have a feast. :)

I do hope this helped understand how important meditation can be in the day by day life of Cat or Human, we all need to remember to center ourselves on occasion don’t you think?

Tigger Tom is a sweet-natured, lovable, buff-colored cat who was rescued by PCHS on a Saturday afternoon after a distressing call came into the office from a good Samaritan frantically looking for help with this injured boy. He was lying in a driveway, unable to help himself because his lower jaw had been broken in half, either from abuse or from being hit by a car. A PCHS volunteer drove over to rescue him, and he was taken to our shelter so we could assess his injuries and keep him safe. He was then sent into surgery to repair his jaw, where a metal rod was inserted across the bottom, lengthwise, and then a wire was put around that in a figure eight to hold it all together.

To follow me on Twitter, is a good start to understanding pet care and how to make your pet the best ZenLike Pet you can in your FamilyUnit even if that pet is Off The Streets, my hope is that you will gain some better understanding on how to make the most of your time with your pet; http://twitter.com/knatdecat

Some of the recent entries that have been added since not so long ago are;

My Accounts on Twitter with Link References;

ZenLike

Similar to FengShui a household that is Zen Like is quite possible to attain to, but it does take a consistent idea being presented time and time again and a UnitedEffort in making a difference for the here and now.

A household to be Zen Like takes some effort as the idea of Zen is each is united as one, in an absolute harmony with the overall experience.

FamilyUnit

The Family Unit, may be a misnomer in this day and age but it is more specific to the hierarchy of a household whether single parent and one pet or couple and multiple pets, the Family Unit is a very important aspect of insuring that your pet understands that they are part of a pack, but there place in the pack is not at the front, as pets cannot become AlphaDog simply because they think that is their place. To insure a happy and ZenLike household it is necessary as was said before to make sure the pets know their place, to understand they are not of the highest priority, the head of the household should either be the father or the single mother who runs it, the pet should never have a chance to assume that position.

Off The Streets

Certainly LifeOnTheStreets is tough even for a pet who was found at ThePound but is that enough reason to say that this animal, simply because before it was living on the streets should have full run and do what he/she chooses to not be disciplined because life was hard. Really when you bring a pet into your home, or add one to your family, it is expected that the animal become used to the family and the community living arrangements. So being that the case even if an animal is off the streets there still needs to be discipline and training because otherwise he/she becomes a threat or a pure annoyance to a HealthySocialLife which is certainly a pivotal part of living life fully.
